Danny Murphy hits the Tottenham nail on the head as he shares one worry for Everton clash

Danny Murphy has provided his verdict for Tottenham Hotspur’s final-day clash against Everton as they look to pip West Ham to survival.

The former Spurs player has not delivered the most optimistic assessment of Sunday’s fixture, with the 49-year-old having one major concern about his previous employers.

It has been an utterly disastrous campaign for the N17 outfit, and it would further be compounded by dropping into the Championship next season.

As things stand, survival is in the hands of the Lilywhites and not in that of West Ham’s.

It is a final-day position that Tottenham will be glad to be in, but according to Murphy, things could turn quite uncomfortable.

What has Danny Murphy said he is worried about with Tottenham?

Tottenham missed the chance to end the Premier League relegation battle against Chelsea, with West Ham now holding some hope of an escape.

The Lilywhites have taken the fight to the last day of the season after failing to secure a result at Stamford Bridge.

For Murphy, he has one big concern about Spurs when they face Everton, and that is that they must start fast against the Toffees.

Speaking on talkSPORT, former Tottenham midfielder Murphy stated: “I think it will be a tiny margin on the day. A lot will depend on Tottenham’s start to the game. I think if they were to go a goal down, nerves would kick in.”

The ex-pro turned pundit is essentially questioning Spurs’ bottle to turn up when the going gets tough, and his words are not empty analysis either.

Danny Murphy is spot on in Tottenham assessment

Unfortunately, his assessment of this Spurs squad is entirely correct. In 19 of this season’s Premier League games, the Lilywhites have gone behind to the opening goal.

And in those fixtures, Tottenham have yet to win a game from that position. In fact, they have lost 13 of those ties and drawn six.

While Spurs do only need a point to effectively secure survival due to the goal difference disparity, a 31 per cent success rate at achieving that outcome from going 1-0 down is not exactly a confident position to be in.

It also gives Spurs a points-per-game total of just 0.31 when trying to fight back from conceding the opener.

So ahead of facing Everton, the goal for the N17 outfit is clear. They must be compact; they must be organised and, at all costs, avoid conceding the first goal of the game.

History suggests the final result will not be too kind if they fail to do so.
