Martin Ho makes biggest call yet over Bethany England as Tottenham Women revolution gains pace
Martin Ho and Tottenham Hotspur are making some big calls after a flurry of announcements about imminent exits.
Tottenham are on course to have their best-ever Women’s Super League season under summer appointee Ho.
Spurs need to pick up just one more win from their remaining two fixtures to break their WSL points record (32) but if they want to go one step further next season, they will have to do it with a very different-looking squad.
In a matter of days, Tottenham have announced that six players will leave the club this summer, in addition to a host of academy talents.
Tottenham captain England is one of them, as Spurs make a number of big calls as they try to challenge the WSL’s established top four.

Tottenham make wholesale changes
On Tuesday, Tottenham announced that Spurs stalwart Kit Graham would leave the club when her contract expires this summer.
The 30-year-old was part of Tottenham’s very first squad to compete in England’s top-flight in 2019 and has since scored 11 goals in 91 games for the club.
| Bethany England’s Tottenham spell | |
| 2022-23 season | 13 goals in 14 games |
| 2023-24 season | Eight goals in 21 games |
| 2024-25 season | Eight goals in 23 games |
| 2025-26 season | Nine goals in 26 games |
However, she spent the second half of this season on loan at WSL 2 side Ipswich Town, so moving her on makes sense. A day later, the same fate followed for Amy James-Turner, 34, Luana Buhler, 30, Charli Grant, 24, and Josefine Rybrink, 28.
James-Turner is in the autumn years of her career, Buhler has been sidelined with injury this season, while Grant and Rybrink have been in and out of the team.
However, the decision not to retain top scorer England is a bold call. The 31-year-old arrived on a record fee from Chelsea in 2023, saved them from relegation last term, and has led their charge this season.
But Tottenham appear to be looking to the future, and England is not in it. She still has plenty to give in the game, so this is a big gamble from Tottenham.
And going by her farewell video, this was very difficult to take for former Chelsea forward England. Tottenham want to crash the top four and that may have been possible with England in their ranks.
But it seems the club are being ruthless as they try and push up the table.
Bethany England ‘proud’ of her Tottenham journey
In an emotional interview, England reflected on her time at Tottenham, including an FA Cup final run.
And while this may not have gone the way she would have wanted, Tottenham will always have a special place in England’s heart.
She told the club’s website, “I’ve spent most part of the day crying. Yeah, it’s very tough, very, very tough. Yeah, a lot harder than, not that I expected, but yeah, it’s very difficult.
“I might not miss the M25 drive every day, but I’ll miss so much about this place. I knew the last few weeks were going to be hard and I feel like I don’t want to spend every day crying, but I probably will, but, unfortunately, stories come to an end and I’m proud of the way this one has gone.”
After Tottenham’s goalless draw with Manchester United, England will hope to fire her side to victory over London City on Sunday in what will be her penultimate game.
