Tottenham Women continue wretched run against big four as Spurs close in on WSL record
Tottenham Hotspur were held to a goalless draw against Manchester United as their poor run against the Women’s Super League’s big four continued.
Martin Ho’s side ended a run of three defeats in a row in the WSL as they dominated the Red Devils at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.
Despite having the greatest share of chances and possession, they couldn’t find a way past Phallon Tullis-Joyce in the Man United goal.
Although they were without top scorer Beth England, Tottenham had a whopping 22 shots, but just five of them were on target.
However, Tottenham’s draw with Man United puts them within one victory of achieving their record WSL points total, highlighting what a good job Ho has done in his first season in charge.

Tottenham miss golden opportunity
Heading into this encounter, Tottenham had won just twice against the WSL’s big four (Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City, and Man United) in 52 attempts.
On Sunday, though, it looked like they would claim win number three as they had 57.5 per cent possession and 12 more shots than the visitors.
But try as they might, they simply could not find a way through an out-of-sorts Red Devils team.

At the other end, however, Tottenham did keep their first clean sheet since 11 January.
And although they didn’t get the three points their performance merited, Ho could not fault his team’s effort.
He told SpursPlay: I thought we were very good. I couldn’t have asked any more as they’ve pushed a really good side today.
“In the first half and second, we had some big chances, and it just won’t go in, but we have to look a lot of the progressive play, a lot of really good attitude and mentality – a really good performance. We’ve pushed them all away, but it just didn’t want to go in.”
With two games to go, if Tottenham beat either London City or Brighton, fifth place will be theirs. Moreover, they will surpass their record WSL points total of 32.
Tottenham on the rise under Martin Ho
Tottenham Women took a bit of a risk in appointing 35-year-old Ho as their new boss last summer. While he had impressed at Norwegian side SK Brann, the WSL is a different proposition entirely.
So to turn a Tottenham team that finished 11th last season into one that was flirting with Champions League qualification earlier this year is some going by Ho.
Tottenham decided to extend his contract in late March, and with him at the helm, Spurs seem to be on the right path.
They will need to strengthen again this summer, but if they can beat London City and Brighton in the coming weeks, this season should be viewed as a huge success.
