‘Odobert to reconsider Tottenham future’ after recent transfer developments
Wilson Odobert has not had the ideal start to his Tottenham career.
Tottenham evaded the watchful eyes of the media when they announced the surprise signing of Odobert from Burnley in August 2024 for a reported fee of £25million.
The talented France Under-21 international was brought in to offer the Lilywhites a different profile with his trickery and one-on-one dribbling abilities that the North Londoners sorely lacked.
Despite positive signs in his first month at Tottenham, the 20-year-old suffered a setback after back-to-back hamstring injuries, which saw him miss over half of his debut season in N17.
Odobert has never fully reintegrated into the first team at Tottenham, which could now be even more challenging following recent transfer developments.

Mohammed Kudus and Mathys Tel threaten Odobert’s position
Tottenham’s second signing of the summer was to secure Mathys Tel on a permanent deal from Bayern Munich following his loan spell.
This did not satisfy Thomas Frank, who made it abundantly clear that he wanted to add at least one more forward to his ranks.
After a protracted search for that player, the former Brentford manager finally got his wish as Tottenham announced the arrival of Mohammed Kudus.
This takes Tottenham’s total number of senior wide forwards to seven, not including Bryan Gil, who is set to leave Spurs this summer.
Season | Appearances | Goals | Assists | Minutes Played |
2024/25 | 21 | 3 | – | 1,008′ |
These developments will not have been well received by Odobert, who now has even more competition for a place in the starting lineup for Spurs, especially if Mikey Moore also has a role to play under Frank.
The former Paris Saint-Germain youth player was experimented with as an attacking midfielder a couple of times last season. However, Tottenham’s approach for Morgan Gibbs-White shows that this will not be considered a viable option.
Obobert will likely feel that he never got the chance to impress at Hotspur Way and may reconsider his future at Tottenham if he is not offered assurances over his game time.

Frank will offer up surprises at Spurs
One respite for Odobert is that Frank is very adaptable as a manager and has been conditioned by Brentford’s limited financial resources to make the most of the players at his disposal.
Tottenham’s squad appears to have too many players in wide positions, where it is expected that two would play at any given time.
However, Frank is likely to offer up some surprises as he may change the formation and roles of players to match his squad’s strengths.
The Dane may employ two strikers, with a player like Kudus or Brennan Johnson as a second striker, or he may utilise wingerbacks with a back three, which could see Odobert converted into an attacking fullback.
