Tottenham news round-up: Postecoglou sack twist emerges, new transfer talks held
Tottenham will be hoping to end the season on a strong note as they’ve struggled in the league and are out of the Carabao Cup.
The transfer window has shut and the North London outfit are still in two cup competitions, hoping to end their trophy drought.
With a lot being reported on Spurs, Tottenham News has rounded up the big news stories from 8 February.
Ange Postecoglou wants Mathys Tel to be part of club’s long-term plans
Ange Postecoglou made it clear in talks with Mathys Tel that he does not want his arrival to be a short-term signing, according to Give Me Sport.
Spurs plan to make the 19-year-old key to the club’s attack with him being deployed centrally as well as on the wings.
The club have no plans to trigger the option to buy Timo Werner permanently as Tel has been viewed as the long-term option.
Paul Merson tears into players after Liverpool defeat
Paul Merson has accused the Spurs players of not taking enough responsibility after the Liverpool defeat.
In his view, the players felt like questions would be asked of Daniel Levy and Postecoglou and not of them in the aftermath of the game.
Spurs now have the FA Cup and Europa League to fight for if they are to win any silverware this season.
Speaking on Sky Sports (8 February, 12:44), Merson said: “There was some experienced players out there, there was a lot of caps out there.
“For me, it was not good enough, it was like ‘if we get beat it will be down to Ange and it will be down to Levy.’
“I thought it was shocking, there are ways of losing, everybody loses football matches whoever you may be but this is the semi-final, dig in.”
Tottenham hold Adam Wharton and Tyler Dibling transfer talks
Football Transfers reported that the Lilywhites are considering signing Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton as well as Southampton winger Tyler Dibling.
Internal talks have taken place already as Spurs are planning in advance for the summer transfer window.
It is unclear yet as to whether or not they’re ready to make a legitimate move for the duo.
Ange Postecoglou remains in legitimate sack danger
The Australian remains in serious danger of losing his job and things could get accelerated if Aston Villa beat them on 9 February.
Give Me Sport report that he could find himself on the brink if he cannot manage to beat Unai Emery’s side and progress to the next round of the FA Cup.

If that happens, it would be the second cup exit in the week, after they suffered a humiliating 4-0 second leg defeat against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.
