Why Tottenham are about to see the very best of Pedro Porro after World Cup triumph

Tottenham Hotspur look set to benefit from Pedro Porro's World Cup heroics for several reasons.

The Lilywhites watched the right-back touch the most prized possession in football when he helped Spain lift the World Cup trophy in July after beating Argentina in the final.

The 26-year-old featured in six games for Luis de la Fuente's side and sat on the bench for two group stage matches.

Like many Spurs players, Porro had a disappointing season in N17 last campaign.

Things did change for the better when Roberto De Zerbi came in, but the Italian won't have been able to see the best of his players given the short space of time he had to work with them, up against the crucial pressure of a possible relegation.

With Tottenham set to put last season behind them, and Porro entering a new campaign full of momentum, De Zerbi and Spurs fans could see the best of the Spaniard.

Why Tottenham have yet to unlock the very best of Porro

Porro was perhaps one of the better players for Tottenham throughout last season, which proves how much quality he has.

The defender did give it his all in most games, though a clear lack of confidence affected him and others in the squad.

However, the full-back enjoyed the best possible change of environment this summer, helping his country to a second World Cup trophy, as his stats from the tournament prove why De Zerbi and supporters should be excited.

Porro accumulated a FotMob rating of 8.04 at the World Cup, compared to a rating of 7.1 with Tottenham in the Premier League last season.

He managed 564 minutes for Spain, scoring two goals, as his pass accuracy stood at an impressive 89.2 per cent.

He also created a whopping 1.60 chances on average per 90 minutes, with a cross success rate of 33.3 per cent.

Porro won 5.11 duels per match, as he also made 2.23 tackles per 90, as well as 1.28 interceptions.

The Tottenham man is only 26 and is yet to enter his prime years, but season on season he is learning and only getting better.

He'll have more quality in the defence around him next season, and De Zerbi could give him even more license to get forward and trouble opponents.

Porro has shown that he can be the best right-back in the world, and coming off the back of his world-class displays with Spain, he could cement that status with Spurs in the upcoming campaign.

But the prospect of that could harm one Tottenham team-mate.

What Porro's inclusion may mean for another Tottenham World Cup star

Porro did get rested in some Premier League games last season due to Tottenham's Champions League quest, but extra games will not be a problem next campaign.

He will be the starting right-back or wing-back for De Zerbi, which raises questions about the future of Djed Spence.

The full-back is likely to be second choice on the left to Destiny Udogie, and with Porro fairly untouchable, he could be doomed in N17.

Tottenham Hotspur News understands that Spence could leave Spurs this summer, even after his stellar World Cup campaign with England.

The defender is wanted by the likes of Everton and Inter Milan, with both teams impressed by his performances in North America.
