Why Savio's display vs Charlton can change everything for Tottenham under Roberto De Zerbi

Savio had a debut of dreams for Tottenham Hotspur.

The Brazilian winger was selected for the bench as Spurs began their Carabao Cup campaign against Charlton.

In the end, it was an easy victory for Roberto De Zerbi's side, who came out as 5-1 winners.

But as Savio came off the bench, the former Manchester City winger brought something to N17 that has been sorely lacking.

Tottenham have not had much excitement over the last year and the skill and quality of the Brazilian has provided them with a much needed mindset.

A trait that Jamie Redknapp believes will be crucial for Tottenham this season.

Savio began his Spurs career in fine form, scoring and assisting a goal despite only coming on in the 71st minute.

He showcased why Spurs were chasing his signature for two summer windows, and he will undoubtedly become a fan favourite.

Speaking on Sky Sports following Tottenham's 5-1 win against Charlton in the Carabao Cup, Redknapp raved about the Brazilian's performance.

He said: "He lit the place up. This is what Tottenham want. Players like that who can get you off your seat, exciting football.

"It is a ferocious left-footed shot there [for his goal]. Then he thinks I have got another one here. Ball falls to him, sits down the defender, whoops, lovely bit of skill. He was excellent."

Upon coming on, Savio showcased his qualities immediately; he created two chances in his short cameo as per FotMob.

Only starters Mateus Fernandes and Rodrigo Bentancur created more with three.

And that was despite only having 11 touches and attempting four passes after coming onto the pitch.

Tottenham supporters will now be wondering what he can offer if selected to start from the first whistle.

And Redknapp's assessment that Savio can raise seats is absolutely spot on, and with a rowdy and vibrant Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, who knows what can be achieved.

Is right-wing the best position for Savio at Tottenham?

Savio has spent equal amounts of time on either wing, which provides De Zerbi with a multi-use tool in his squad.

As per Transfermarkt, the 22-year-old has played 79 games on the left, picking up 28 goal contributions.

While on the right, he has featured in 70 games, securing six goals and 10 assists.

But, with him being left-footed, De Zerbi could get the best out of him on that right-wing.

As shown against Charlton, he has a dangerous wand of a left-foot, that can be improved with the right coaching.
