Where Archie Gray fits into Roberto De Zerbi's plans after magnificent Tottenham display vs Getafe

Archie Gray had an impressive outing in Tottenham Hotspur's pre-season draw against Getafe on Saturday.

The Lilywhites shared a 1-1 draw with the Spanish outfit in a behind-closed-doors game at Hotspur Way.

Conor Gallagher's 70th-minute strike cancelled out Alberto Risco's opener as there were a couple of top performances for Spurs.

Gray was one who was on top form in the game, and is looking to cement his place in Roberto De Zerbi's plans this season.

The 20-year-old has played in five pre-season games so far this summer, but wasn't always getting the minutes he wanted under De Zerbi at the back end of last campaign.

Now, Gray looks to have made a strong impression on De Zerbi, who could change his plans to make room for the Tottenham gem.

Where Archie Gray will fit into De Zerbi's plans

Gray played 61 minutes in De Zerbi's first game in charge of Tottenham, though he managed just two appearances and 41 minutes in the final six games after the Sunderland loss.

That said, several additions have raised questions about Gray's involvement for Spurs in the season ahead, with some concerned over whether De Zerbi is a fan or not.

If the Italian wasn't a fan before, he may be one now after the youngsters' display against Getafe.

Gray played 74 minutes and won 100 per cent of his attempted tackles, also winning five of his six ground duels in total.

He had a total carrying distance of 69.3 metres with a 100 per cent dribble success rate, completing all but one of his 34 attempted passes.

Gray didn't get dribbled past once at right-back, and even made one key pass, which will leave some wondering where he will fit in.

Especially when considering that World Cup winner Pedro Porro will soon be available for De Zerbi.

However, the truth is that Gray can play anywhere, as previously seen and throughout pre-season.

De Zerbi has already dropped important Gray clue

It's fair to say that whenever Porro is fit, Gray will not be the starting right-back.

But De Zerbi will have to find a way to play the England U21s star one way or another.

Gray played at right-back in the 2-1 win over Chelsea, and then in midfield against both Sydney FC and Auckland FC.

De Zerbi dropped the biggest clue about the versatile midfielder against Getafe, placing the captain armband on the former Leeds United gem, but it's not the first time that he's done that that in pre-season.

That said, Gray is surely going to have a place in the starting squad one way or another, whether that be at right-back, midfield or another position.
