Tottenham Hotspur's Djed Spence doesn't have a big fan in Troy Deeney.

The Englishman is currently away with the Three Lions for the World Cup, and started for his nation in the 0-0 draw against Ghana.

Spence played 30 times for Spurs in the Premier League last season, and rightly earned his call-up to Thomas Tuchel's squad for the World Cup.

The 25-year-old has so far racked up 76 minutes in North America, and could be set to start for England's final group stage game against Panama.

Tuchel confirmed ahead of the match that Reece James will be unavailable after sustaining a hamstring issue, which leaves only a few options for cover at right-back

Spence could play in his natural position for England, but Deeney would be fully against that, for some weird reason.

Troy Deeney gets Djed Spence take all wrong

England conceded two goals to Croatia in their opening 4-2 win of the tournament, and interestingly didn't concede after Spence came on.

The Three Lions also kept a clean sheet after he started at left-back against Ghana, where he won 100 per cent of his ground duels, and boasted an impressive 96 per cent passing accuracy.

To put his influence into context, England conceded just 0.17 xG against Ghana when he started, compared to 0.70 and two goals in the game, which he didn't.

While speaking on talkSPORT, Deeney felt the need to berate his fellow Englishman, in a truly bizarre assessment of Spence ahead of his possible inclusion at right-back against Panama.

Deeney said: "When we're saying Spence, who is our left-back option, is now going to be our right-back option, I really struggle to see why we didn't take Lewis Hall.

"I do worry, if we go to Spence, sorry, I can't stand him defensively, I think he switches off."

Spence is one of the better one-versus-one defenders that England have in their ranks, proven by the fact that he was only dribbled past 10 times in the Premier League last season.

The former Leeds United loanee has only played eight times for the Three Lions, but looks like he's been in the group for a lot longer.

This is what Thomas Tuchel could and should do with Djed Spence vs Panama

Deeney did give credit to Spence for his offensive work, which was about the only sense he actually spoke about the Tottenham star.

Spence has looked at home in the left-back position, though he is now the only fit natural right-back to fill in the absence of James.

Tuchel should play the Tottenham man in that position, and opt to go with Nico O'Reilly on the left.

Spence picked up a 7.0 FotMob rating against Ghana last time out in his 65-minute performance, and deserves another start.

Let's hope he can make Deeney eat his words.
