Tottenham reminded of how good Micky van de Ven can be with superb World Cup moment vs Morocco
Micky van de Ven has become undroppable at Tottenham Hotspur.
Signing from VfL Wolfsburg in 2023, the Dutchman has grown into one of Europe's best defenders, naturally attracting attention across the continent.
On the international stage, he has been a key component in the Netherlands' World Cup side this summer.
On Monday, the Dutch would drop out of the competition at the round of 32 stage, falling to a penalty shootout defeat against Morocco.
But, the Spurs defender proved his worth once again, even in an unfamiliar wing-back role.
Looking at one moment in particular, fans in North London will be buzzing to watch their star man once again next term as he showed just what he can do.
Micky van de Ven produced a moment Tottenham fans will love
For his national side, Van de Ven has often found himself out at left-back, with new Spurs man Jan Paul van Hecke partnering Virgil van Dijk at centre-back.
Against Morocco, Ronald Koeman opted for a rather conservative back five setup, resulting in the 25-year-old starting at left-wing-back.
Naturally, the centre-back by trade would struggle offensively, with just one pass into the final third, one touch in the Moroccan box, and just 26 touches in general as the Netherlands sat on the back foot.
In a higher role, he wasn't able to have the same defensive impact, but still showed his worth with six contributions in total, made up of one tackle, two blocks, one clearance and two interceptions.
One moment in particular made him stand out though, as he put in an expertly timed tackle on Achraf Hakimi inside the box - described as a 'monster tackle' by Voetbal Primeur.
Utilising his supreme pace, the defender was able to produce another big moment, as seen time after time in a Tottenham shirt.
Monday was not his best showing, as to be expected in a remarkably different role to the centre-back position at Spurs, and even left-back role for the national team.
But, Spurs fans saw a glimpse of what he has up his sleeve - something they will be ever so excited to see again as they develop under Roberto De Zerbi.
Roberto De Zerbi has Van de Ven decision staring right at him
After he steered the Lilywhites to safety, trust has been placed in De Zerbi ahead of the coming season.
Both Marcos Senesi and Van Hecke have arrived as centre-back options, meaning that a spot may not be guaranteed in the middle for Van de Ven.
However, he could form the perfect partnership with compatriot Van Hecke as a result of their contrasting abilities.
Capable of driving and eating up ground with the ball at his feet, Van de Ven is a huge physical asset, while he is not too shabby in possession.
Van Hecke on the other side, acts like a midfielder in the backline, with an incredible passing range in his locker.
Senesi sits between the pair stylistically, and is a more than useful backup option, but there should be no debate about Van de Ven's position moving forward.
His pace allows him to be comfortable out wide, but it does not get the best out of him.
Despite the arrival of Senesi, Tottenham's vice captain simply must be the one starting alongside Van Hecke next term.
