Tottenham have next Hugo Lloris on their hands after U21s latest
Hugo Lloris is regarded as a legend at Tottenham for good reason.
The 39-year-old goalkeeper made 447 appearances for the Lilywhites in a 12-year stint in North London.
He was a part of Mauricio Pochettino's side that reached the 2019 UEFA Champions League final, and ultimately lost to Liverpool.
For many, he is a reminder of the good times, when Spurs were at the elite level, with the likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.
Now, Roberto De Zerbi is trying to reach those levels, and he may have the next Lloris beneath his nose.
The latest Under-21 developments in the 2-2 EFL Trophy draw against Cheltenham Town suggest that he may have something to look at.
How did Samual Archer perform in Tottenham U21's vs Cheltenham Town?
Samual Archer is one of the most promising talents in the Hotspur Way academy system.
The 19-year-old played the full 90 minutes against the League Two side, and he put in an inspired display.
He made three saves, with a further two in the penalty shootout that the young Spurs side ended up losing 7-6.
According to FotMob data, he made one punch, one high claim and 13 recoveries in the contest.
Lloris was known for his sweeper abilities, and the youngster acted as a sweeper five times in the clash at Whaddon Road.
The Frenchman was not known for his distribution, and it may be a similar case with Archer, as while he completed 82 per cent of his passes, only 20 per cent of his long balls worked out.
What's next for Archer after EFL Trophy heroics?
Obviously, comparisons to Lloris, one of Spurs' greatest goalkeepers are early.
However, if Archer continues his development, he may well find himself in contention to start in the first-team.
He will have to oust Antonin Kinsky first, as the Czech has well and truly taken the number one shirt under De Zerbi.
If he can continue to thrive for Wayne Burnett's side, then he may well earn himself a promotion to the senior ranks in the coming years.
Then he can start to find a way to make himself a contender for the position, but that may be a few seasons off.
His latest performance was encouraging though, and he will certainly provide some food for thought in the next few years.
