Tottenham Hotspur could learn more about Marcos Senesi than they expected this summer.

The centre-back has just completed a free transfer switch to North London after his Bournemouth deal expired.

A pre-contract agreement certainly represents a real coup for Spurs after he was linked with a number of other Premier League sides.

The Lilywhites have announced the deal, but won't get a look at him on Hotspur Way until much later in the summer.

The 29-year-old was on holiday after the Premier League campaign came to an end, but is now set to jet off to North America instead.

He has received a last-minute call up to the Argentina squad, with Roberto De Zerbi set to get fresh insight into Senesi before his N17 move.

The defender could be set to be a starter at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, depending on what happens this season.

Both Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero have been linked with exits and Senesi looks likely to be the ideal alternative at this stage.

Spurs would have expected to welcome the ex-Feyenoord man to North London at the start of pre-season, but that won't be the case now.

The defender is set to link up with the Argentina national team for the World Cup as an emergency option.

He will replace Marseille defender Leonardo Balerdi after he picked up an injury in training ahead of their opener against Algeria.

That is an obvious source of pride for Senesi, but could also prove to be the perfect way for De Zerbi to get an unexpected look at his new signing.

Tottenham to get perfect Senesi insight after surprise call-up

The Lilywhites will know a lot about the defender based on his four years in the Premier League with Bournemouth.

He has made 128 appearances for the Cherries and has helped them to a sixth place finish and Europa League qualification last season.

Senesi featured in all but one Premier League game last time around, starting 37 out of 38 games in total.

As part of that run, he won 196 duels, contributed to 418 defensive actions while also proving his ability with his feet by completing 1801 passes with a 77 per cent accuracy.

He didn't score, but did put up five assists which would ironically sit him joint first in the Tottenham squad alongside Xavi Simons and Mohammed Kudus who also set up five goals.

That is certainly a positive base from which to learn about Senesi, but his upcoming exploits with Argentina will bring an unexpected but useful look into what he can do in North London.

De Zerbi revealed after the deal was confirmed that he wanted the Cherries man because of his "experience, quality on the ball, and competitive edge".

He will now get an opportunity to prove that on the international stage before coming back to N17 with a point to prove.
