Marcos Senesi continues to struggle for consistent minutes at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Argentina international came in from Bournemouth on a free transfer early on in the summer.

That was seen as a coup for the Lilywhites given the level of interest in his signature.

Despite that, Spurs still moved to bring in both Jan Paul van Hecke and Tosin Adarabioyo.

That hasn't helped the 29-year-old settle as he has often found himself on the bench.

Senesi saw his issues summed up against Coventry City as Roberto De Zerbi comes under fire.

Ben Davies favouritism is costing Marcos Senesi

There was a period against Frank Lampard's side where two injuries cropped up for the hosts.

Both Andy Robertson and Adarabioyo were forced off.

Many assumed that Senesi would be called upon, especially given the surprise surrounding his place on the bench.

He was excellent against Manchester United, but was dropped anyway.

That made it all the more surprising when Ben Davies was given the nod by De Zerbi.

Lilywhite Rose account owner John Wenham found that call bizarre, just as he did with the Welshman's new contract in the summer.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: "I found the decision to renew Ben Davies' contract this summer strange. I thought it was the right time for him to go back to Swansea or even Wrexham and become a regular for them. He's doing his coaches badges and is seen as a good person to have around the club.

"I just found it strange against Coventry that Marcos Senesi wasn't brought on. He came into the team against Manchester United, did nothing wrong and I would have started him.

"I know it's hard after a game to make an argument when you've won, but I just feel like building a squad for the long-term, I can't see the rationale for that change."

That raises serious questions of De Zerbi as the Argentine is yet to truly put a foot wrong in N17.

Why Senesi deserves true chance for Tottenham

The 29-year-old was up there with the best centre-backs in the entire Premier League last season.

Despite that, he has featured across just 179 league minutes for Spurs this season.

His second of two starts came at Old Trafford, and he took to the pitch like a duck to water.

Senesi completed 64 passes, with 13 going into the final third to show that he can make a difference from the back.

That was added to by three defensive actions and three duel wins against a lacklustre Man United side.

You would imagine that would grant him another chance against Coventry, but he remained on the bench for 90 minutes.

Those numbers tell you all you need to know about why he deserves a chance

That is only ramped up knowing that a 33-year-old Davies was given the nod ahead of him.

Utterly bizarre.
