The Roberto De Zerbi tweak that can finally unleash Omar Marmoush at Tottenham

Omar Marmoush is yet to score for Tottenham Hotspur.

However, the Egyptian forward's performances have provided a positive glimpse into what should be a successful career in N17.

In his debut against Newcastle, the former Man City man was lively and was one of Spurs' better players on the day.

Against Nottingham Forest, he was not quite as involved, but in truth neither were his teammates.

If Tottenham are to turn things around and finally get a win on the board, Roberto De Zerbi will need to make tweaks.

And those should be aimed at getting the best out of Marmoush this season.

What has gone right for Omar Marmoush so far at Tottenham?

One of Marmoush's best qualities so far for Tottenham is his fearlessness in taking a man on.

As per Sofascore, the Egyptian has had success when running with the ball this campaign.

Marmoush, over his two Premier League appearances for Spurs is averaging 4.49 dribbles per game, with 3.5 - 78 per cent - becoming successful.

Addtionally, Marmoush is getting chances. He is averaging 2.5 shots per game but the issue lies in the danger of those opportunities.

He gets just 0.5 shots on target per game, and has only generated 0.33 xG so far.

Of course, there is plenty of time for things to turn around, but De Zerbi can unlock Marmoush by focusing on where he gets the ball, not when.

How Roberto De Zerbi can amplify Marmoush's qualities

Marmoush is not a typical striker. He does not do the greatest with his back to goal, and he will not bully defenders.

His best season in football came at Eintracht Frankfurt, where he played as more of a second striker alongside now Liverpool man Hugo Ekitike.

De Zerbi is unlikely to change his formation to match that tactic, but he can still facilitate Marmoush to get into those sort of positions.

On the right wing, Savio has been hugging the touchline in his early performances, and Mathys Tel has been doing the same on the opposite side.

That width leaves huge gaps between the striker and his fellow attackers.

However, based on heatmaps from this season so far, Marmoush is rarely occupying those areas.

De Zerbi must tweak his tactics to allow Marmoush to exploit the gaps between the centre-backs and fullbacks.

Allow him to run onto a pass, rather than receive it and having to turn.

Then, Tottenham fans will see how good Marmoush can truly be.
