Tottenham academy gem Mikel Jack finally made his debut for England Under-17 in the 3-2 loss to Germany.

The 16-year-old had been struggling at international and club level so far this season.

He is one of the biggest talents at Hotspur Way but he has not had the kind of campaign that he would have liked.

He has not had the impact required for Spurs' Under-18's and also did not feature in the young Lions' first three matches of the international break.

Jack missed out against Republic of Ireland, Israel and Venezuela's youth sides.

However, he has now bounced back from those setbacks, after he was given the nod by Barry Lewtas on 4 October.

What did Tottenham gem Mikel Jack do on his England U17 debut?

Lilywhites gem Jack was handed an opportunity to make his Under-17 bow and he took it well.

He conceded three goals in a close game, but he kept his nation in the contest with a brilliant first-half save.

The official England website match report said: “A fantastic diving right-handed save by Jack in the 28th minute prevented Soldic from extending Germany’s lead.”

It is a good sign that he was able to pull off a big save on such an important moment in his young career.

It provides hope that he can eventually make the step up for Roberto De Zerbi's side, and challenge Antonin Kinsky.

How bad has Jack's performances been this season?

The fantastic debut scenes will hopefully allow Jack to rebound from a tough start

He has featured six times for Jamie Carr's side in the Under-18 Premier League.

Jack has conceded eight goals, with seven from inside the box and one from range, per data from the N17 club's official website.

He has made just four saves in the competition, and received a red card on his debut at the level against Reading in a 2-2 draw.

The new Three Lions youth star has made 158 passes, with 17 successful distributions, which implies that that area of his game needs work.

He will return to North London with a renewed confidence, ready to show why there is so much belief in his talent.

Jack still has a long way to go to reach the highest level, but if he can continue to step up in big moments, it will help his chances of doing that.
