Roberto De Zerbi must keep George Jobling on his Tottenham radar after England U17 scenes
Roberto De Zerbi may have George Jobling's name on his radar at Tottenham very shortly.
The Italian boss may need to call on the academy to fill gaps in his squad if injuries continue to mount.
Jobling was signed after he was released by London rivals Chelsea, and has shown lots of talent for the youth side so far.
The defender has been away on international duty with England Under-17's and featured in their 3-2 loss to Germany on Sunday.
He has played a lot for Barry Lewtas' young England side in recent weeks, which will only give him confidence.
Spurs staff will be monitoring his progress after the latest break with the young Lions.
Why will Roberto De Zerbi be pleased with George Jobling England scenes?
Jobling featured for 83 minutes in the defeat, coming on as an early substitute.
However, he could not prevent his side from losing in Germany, with the hosts finding the net twice after the visitors had gone 2-1 up.
He seems to be growing in influence for Lewtas' side, as he came off the bench very early in the latest match and also started in the 1-0 win over Venezuela.
He also came off the bench in the 2-1 win over Israel and the 5-0 victory over Republic of Ireland.
De Zerbi will have to be looking closely at Jobling's progress in the academy over the coming months.
How has Jobling performed so far in Tottenham's academy?
Jobling will be hoping to make his senior debut soon, and follow in the footsteps of fellow young defender Junai Byfield.
The 16-year-old right-back has featured five times for the Under-18's at club level so far this season.
In the Under-18's Premier League, he has made five tackles, five interceptions and one block, per Spurs' official website.
He has also won 25 duels of the 38 that he has attempted, for a 65 per cent success ratio.
Jobling has made 222 passes, with 172 short passes so far this campaign, so he is clearly comfortable playing out from the back.
In terms of discipline, he has picked up one yellow card for the six fouls that he has committed, and also conceded one penalty.
That data suggests that De Zerbi should be taking a look at him soon.
