How Lucas Bergvall has delivered Tottenham deja vu as Swedish media split after win vs Romania
Tottenham's Lucas Bergvall returned to the Sweden line-up in the final game of the Nations League in this break.
The Scandinavian country took on Romania, securing a 1-0 win with Sweden moving to the top of their League B group.
The midfielder has used this extended international break to push for a place in Roberto De Zerbi's starting line-up.
At Tottenham, the 20-year-old has barely been given a chance to start by the Italian.
But international manager Graham Potter has now given him three much-needed 90-minute displays over the last two weeks,
However, the Swedish media have now delivered a verdict on his performance versus Romania that feels all too familiar to Bergvall's situation in N17.
What have the Swedish media said about Lucas Bergvall?
Bergvall is undoubtedly a talented player, but the midfielder can often be hot and cold at Tottenham.
Now, in his latest display for his nation, that pattern has reared its head.
News outlet TV Matchen have given Bergvall a six out of ten for Sweden, but noted both his ability to impact and drift out of the game.
They state: "At times almost invisible, at times with an aura that shows that 'I own this arena. ' Pressed the ball to himself and was the man behind Sweden's winning goal. Became a bit back-heavy in others, but controlled events."
Elsewhere, Svenska Fans have backed that assessment up, with a three out of five handed down to the Tottenham midfielder.
With their review sharing: "Bergvall was back in the starting XI and made an incredibly strong ball win that led to the 1-0 goal. He was also very good with the ball at times.
"However, there was also quite a bit of sloppiness in possession. Still, he was good overall in the duels."
Fotbollskanalen provided a more positive view, handing a four out of five to the Spurs man, pointing out his passing quality that "repeatedly played through the opposition’s lines."
However, the overall view is that Bergvall was simultaneously struggling to impose himself on the game, while popping up with some key moments as well.
A story that both Tottenham fans and De Zerbi have become quite accustomed to.
The good and the bad from Bergvall's display vs Romania
As shared by the Swedish media, there were both resounding positives to take away from Bergvall's display, but also some poor signs as well.
In terms of his defensive work, the Spurs midfielder was spot on throughout the game.
He made eight defensive contributions, consisting of three blocks, three clearances and two interceptions, according to FotMob.
He also completed more recoveries (seven) than any other Swedish outfield player.
In his duels, he was 50/50, winning two from four battles, rounding out a positive performance in that regard.
But in terms of attack, he did not have any impact, creating zero chances and having zero attempts at goal, while also failing to complete his only attempted dribble.
While it was not a showcase that will immediately prompt De Zerbi to rethink, getting three 90-minute games in over these last two weeks will do Bergvall the world of good.
