Why Tottenham's NBA tie-in could have big ramifications as expert speaks out

Tottenham could host more American sports at their stadium in the near future.

That is the view of Spurs expert John Wenham, speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, after the news that the ownership are eyeing an NBA Europe franchise.

The Lewis Family have invested plenty of money on Roberto De Zerbi's side this summer, but they may also expand into basketball soon.

They are believed to be exploring a bid for a London team, with a 12-team league proposed to start in 2027.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium already hosts major events, including NFL and concerts, generating significant revenue.

Wenham has now opened up what it could all mean for the Lilywhites.

What NBA Europe deal will mean for Tottenham

Wenham believes that the potential deal for an NBA Europe team, reported by The Athletic on 11 August, will benefit Tottenham.

He said: “It’ll provide boosted exposure and it could potentially be linked to a stadium naming rights deal, as well as a partnership tie-in with the NBA like we’ve got with the NFL.

“It could all be part of a bigger scheme and a bigger package to host more American sporting events at our stadium. I could see that sort of thing happening."

Ultimately, more exposure and more revenue from hosting those events can only be a good thing for the club.

How else would NBA Europe deal affect Tottenham?

It would increase the N17 club's exposure massively, and help them expand into the American market even more than they already have.

That can only lead to more money in the coffers, and the potential to have more supporters across the pond, which should help De Zerbi's side in the long-run.

They will then generate more from shirt sales, merchandise and pre-season tours in the country.

The Lewis's have shown that they can be very savvy when it comes to the financial situation at Spurs, and the latest move could be a very clever one.

The results will only be known once a deal happens, and is well underway, but it would be an encouraging sign for the future of the North London club.
