Why patience could be key as Amanda Staveley has Newcastle blueprint for Tottenham takeover

Joe Lewis has no immediate intention of selling up at Tottenham Hotspur, but that has not stopped takeover talk from rumbling on.

The Lewis Family last week injected more money into Tottenham - around £120million or so.

That is more for general upkeep, rather than transfers after a massive summer outlay.

ENIC, spearheaded by Lewis, have now invested around £320m into the North London club in the past 12 months.

And there is zero indication the Lewis Family has any plans on cashing in anytime soon.

Yet a new report has emerged regarding Amanda Staveley that makes for interesting reading.

Staveley was part of a Tottenham takeover attempt in the past - one that ultimately came to nothing.

Despite having the funds from PCP Capital behind her, no offer was formally lodged as it became clear ENIC are here to stay.

As per Mark Douglas for i Newspaper's print edition on Wednesday, Staveley and PCP remain interested in Tottenham and also fierce rivals West Ham United across the capital.

Staveley and PCP are continuing to monitor the market, with Spurs said to be valued in excess of £3.5billion.

As pointed out by Douglas in the article, it took four years between PIP - which Staveley was a figurehead for - registering an interest in Newcastle United and eventually completing a takeover.

That is the blueprint that could be followed in any takeover attempt of another Premier League club, although it may well be that is at West Ham rather than Spurs as things stand.

What does Tottenham's future look like post-ENIC?

For so long Daniel Levy and ENIC came under fire for a lack of ambition.

That certainly cannot be thrown at the owners this summer as, with Levy now gone, they have thrown plenty of money at it.

The Lewis family's latest cash injection last week also signals they continue to have the club's long-term health at heart.

In truth, it may well be the better the devil you know.

Results have been dreadful at the start of the season, but if Roberto De Zerbi can turn things around then the picture will change.

The bottom line is that Spurs are not for sale right now. Unless than stance even slightly changes, there is no route in for Staveley, PCP or anyone else.

Patience, therefore, will remain key.
