View: Tottenham need a plan after announcing Dean Rastrick has left role as academy manager

On Tuesday 13 June Tottenham announced to their official website that Dean Rastrick had left his role as Academy Manager to explore new challenges.

With so much uncertainty surrounding the club in recent months after managerial changes, a new director of football still yet to be appointed and fan unrest, this will come as another blow to Daniel Levy and Tottenham.

Rastrick joined in 2010 as Academy Performance Manager and was appointed as the Club’s Academy Manager in 2017 before taking full responsibility for the overall academy programme in 2020.

During his time at the club, Rastrick has enjoyed a host of successes with many players graduating through the academy and having successful careers in the Premier League and Europe – most notably Harry Kane.

However, it could be argued that the academy has suffered in recent seasons with many talented players not getting as many first-team minutes as they would elsewhere despite performing well at youth level. Rastrick may have perhaps been frustrated by this fact.

“I have been very fortunate to have worked with some incredible staff, people and young players throughout my journey and sit proudly and watch them thrive and flourish, be it here or elsewhere, as elite players, coaches or members of staff,” Rastrick told the official club website.

Too often the club’s academy players have flourished “elsewhere” and this needs to change going forward.

With a new manager in charge and the recent appointment of Scott Munn, the club might be starting to head in a new direction and Rastrick’s departure doesn’t have to be a bad thing, as long as the club can make the right replacement.

However, it is yet again another recruitment process for Levy who hasn’t been short of these tasks recently.

In other Tottenham news, another hunt for a managerial replacement is continuing at the club.
