View: Tottenham have another player to watch after the emergence of Oliver Irow
Ange Postecoglou has kicked off his Tottenham Hotspur era and one thing fans can expect is the promotion of youth.
When Daniel Levy appointed his 12th permanent manager as Tottenham chairman he promised that the latest recruit would bring back a connection between the first team and the academy.
During his 11th permanent manager’s reign, the Antonio Conte era, which lasted just shy of 18 months, a disconnect formed between the club’s academy and senior squad with pathways for the youngsters appearing blocked.

That is why it was important for Levy to find someone that could clear those blockages and begin promoting youth again.
“He has a strong track record of developing players and an understanding of the importance of the link from the academy – everything that is important to our Club,” Levy told the official club website (6 June) when explaining his decision to hire the former Australia head coach.
Spurs’ academy is full of plenty of talent and has produced some fine players in the past, Harry Kane of course being the finest of them all. With the arrival of Postecoglou, many of the club’s prospects will be excited about prospects of their own as they look to break into the first-team picture.
Mikey Moore, Damola Ajayi and Alfie Dorrington are all players who have been previously mentioned by Tottenham News but one talented youngster, Oliver Irow, who emerged last season, has gone under the radar, until now.
In a recent press conference, the 17-year-old was name-dropped by a journalist who described him as a “promising talent” and asked how soon players like that would be promoted from within.
“Yeah, it’s an important part of this football club and the infrastructure and it’s something that we’re constantly monitoring to make sure the club is in the best place possible to find and develop the best talent,” was Postecoglou’s response, as reported by Football London (25 July).

And while he didn’t mention Irow specifically himself, if he really is monitoring the academy as he says, the winger’s talent will certainly become apparent to the 57-year-old sooner rather than later.
The England Under-17 played just once for the academy during the 2021/22 season making his burst onto the scene during the 2022/23 campaign that even bit more impressive and equally surprising.
In 17 Under-18 Premier League appearcnes, Irow scored nine times and played in various positions across the front three. He also started, and scored twice, at the City Ground during the Under-17’s 5-1 victory over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League Cup final.
Yet another talent for supporters to keep an eye on, it is certainly an exciting time for Tottenham’s youth set-up and the arrival of Postecoglou couldn’t have come at a better time for the promising youngsters as they look to make the next steps in their careers.
In other Tottenham news, one young star already in the first-team picture could benefit from a loan next season.
