View: The future is bright as Nile John signs new Tottenham contract

Academy prospect Nile John has signed a new Tottenham contract that will run until 2025, the club has announced.

Yet another Tottenham academy star has signed a new contract with the club. Tottenham announced the news on their official club website on Saturday 1 July.

Over the past month, other prospects such as Alfie Dorrington and Mikey Moore have signed new deals and the Nile announcement comes as another bit of exciting news for the club’s academy. The recent activity could perhaps be linked to Ange Postecoglou’s arrival.

Under Antonio Conte, a disconnect formed between the academy and the first team at Spurs and one of the reasons for Postecoglou’s arrival is to fix exactly that.

Upon appointing the former Celtic manager, Daniel Levy spoke of his “strong track record of developing players and an understanding of the importance of the link from the academy – everything that is important to our Club,” (Tottenham Hotspur, 6 June).

This could perhaps be part of the reason various youth players have agreed on new terms with the club as they seek to break into the first team. The promise of a manager who understands the link between the academy and the first team will be music to the youngster’s ears.

If this is the case with Nile then Postecoglou is already having a positive impact at the club, despite only just arriving, as the young midfielder is an excellent prospect.

The versatile central-midfielder appeared in various positions last season as he made 21 appearances in Premier League 2, scoring on three occasions.

Nile has already made his first-team debut during a 4-0 Europa League win over Wolfsburger AC in February 2021 and has vast international experience having represented England at Under-15, Under-16, Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 levels.

He will now be looking to break into the first team on a more regular basis under the club’s new manager. Fans will be desperate to see some fresh faces from the academy in the first team set up and Nile could very well be one of them.

In other Tottenham news, two young Spurs stars recently experienced different fates at the European Under-21 Championships.
