View: Lankshear scores on debut as three more Tottenham stars shine for England Under-19s
Tottenham Under-21s’ impressive start to the 2023/24 season certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed within the England ranks.
Spurs’ youngsters are flying high in Premier League Two, sitting top of the table with a seven-point lead, having won all eight of their fixtures.
In fact, the Under-21s’ 100 per cent record extends to matches against opposition within their age group in all competitions, having won a further three games in the Premier League Cup, with their only defeats coming against the first teams of Peterborough United and Cambridge United in the EFL Trophy.
Performances throughout the entire squad have been impressive, although a few select players have stood out above the rest, and these players are now backing up their club form on the international stage.
Jamie Donley has scored six times and registered 11 assists in his 11 appearances so far this season, while 18-year-old Will Lankshear has eight goals and two assists in his ten appearances, and the duo were both on target for England Under-19s during their 6-0 win against Romania Under-19s on Wednesday 15 November.
Donley started and netted a brace for the Young Lions at the Marbella Football Centre before being withdrawn on the hour mark. He scored his first and England’s second in the 13th minute before striking again seven minutes after the restart.
As Donley left the field of play, Lankshear was introduced as England made a host of changes. It marked the striker’s first-ever taste of international football, and he took next to no time to announce his name on the world stage. Having been on the pitch for no more than 11 minutes, Lankshear did what he does best and found the back of the net to score England’s sixth and final goal.
At the other end of the pitch, it was an all-Tottenham affair at the heart of defence as Ashley Phillips and Alfie Dorrington lined up alongside each other and helped England to a clean sheet.
Overall, there were a total of five Spurs players in the squad, three of whom started, with goalkeeper Luca Gunter an unused substitute.
