Tottenham youngsters Alfie Devine and Troy Parrott head out on separate loan moves
Tottenham have officially announced loan moves for both 19-year-old Alfie Devine and 21-year-old Troy Parrott, as the youngsters look to continue their development.
While it might not seem like groundbreaking news on the surface, securing loan moves for young talented players can sometimes be a very important thing to do, especially for the likes of Devine who has yet to really taste regular first-team football.
Meanwhile, Parrott will be hoping that his loan move goes more smoothly than his last season spent away from Hotspur Way, as he now looks to try his luck abroad. The club confirmed via Twitter (24 August) that the striker is heading to the Netherlands to link up with Eredivisie outfit Excelsior Rotterdam.
Experience.
Parrott spent last season with Preston North End in the Championship, although only managed to find the back of the net on four occasions in 34 appearances. He is a talented player, and one who has been on the radar of supporters for a while now as a star for the future, but has yet to really kick on.
He has only made four first-team appearances in the colours of Lilywhite, with his development progressing slightly more slowly than some would have hoped. His 20 caps for the Republic of Ireland, which include four goals, demonstrate that there is a player within him, it just needs to be brought out.
As many will remember, it took Harry Kane a few loan moves until he got it right at the club, and maybe this will be the loan that sees Parrott catapult to stardom.
Meanwhile, a player who is a couple of years younger, midfielder Devine, has also secured a temporary switch. On Friday 25 August, the club once again took to Twitter to reveal that the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer will spend the season in League One with Port Vale.
A regular for the Tottenham Under-21s over the past few seasons, a chance for Devine to play some consistent first-team football at such a young age will be fantastic for his development. Moving to the lower divisions of the English game will certainly teach him a thing or two, and allow him to return to Hotspur Way as a much more complete and mature footballer.
Devine was part of the Young Lions side that won the European Under-19 Championship in 2022 and scored twice in England’s four games at the Under-20 World Cup, which took place in Argentina earlier this year.
Supporters will be eager to keep an eye on both of these players’ loan spells and could see the stars return as much improved versions of themselves.
In other Tottenham news, John Wenham does not believe that selling Kane to Bayern Munich was the correct decision.
