Tottenham youngster Mikey Moore must be promoted as he continues to show he is too good for Under-18 football

Although he is still only 16 years old, Tottenham Under-18 ace Mikey Moore has proven that he is already too good for the level he is playing at.

As the season continues to progress, it is looking more and more as if one of Spurs’ most important bits of business last summer was keeping hold of Under-18 star Moore.

The forward signed a contract keeping him at the club until 2026 last July, and at the time it was described by Fabrizio Romano via his official X account as a “huge” bit of business for the North London outfit (4 July 2023).

After his fantastic form this season, it appears that the word “huge” might have in fact been an understatement.

Moore showed in Spurs’ 2-2 draw with Brighton Under-18s on Saturday 27 January that he is already back to his best in what was just his second start since returning from injury.

Following an 11-day break, the Under-18s were back in action on the south coast and had to come from behind when Brighton took the lead in the 34th minute at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre.

Who else but Moore to get his side back on level terms, the winger seeing his strike fly high into the net via a slight deflection.

Five minutes after half-time it was Moore’s corner which was turned goalward from close range by Ellis Lehane – another one of Spurs’ in-form Under-18 stars – to give the visitors the lead.

While they did concede an equaliser late on, it takes nothing away from Moore’s brilliant individual display as the youngster continues to shine and repay the faith placed in him by Tottenham last summer.

It is now nine goals and six assists in nine Under-18 Premier League South appearances this season, an incredible return from the 16-year-old.

He is shining on the international stage too, recently grabbing four goals and two assists across England Under-17s’ three European Championship qualifiers in November.

While his incredibly young age means it will likely be a while before he is a regular in Ange Postecoglou’s squad, there is nothing to suggest that the player shouldn’t be tested by making the move up to the Under-21s.

If he continues to perform in a similar manner at that level, it would increase Moore’s chances of becoming one of Spurs’ youngest debutants in history, a title which he might well have already proven that he deserves.
