Tottenham Under-21s continue to shine after what happened to George Abbott on Wednesday

Tottenham are continuing to produce top talent at Hotspur Way, with George Abbott becoming the latest player to receive an international call-up.

It has been a fantastic season for Spurs’ Under-21s.

Wayne Burnett’s side are close to securing the Premier League 2 title, while several of Spurs’ Under-21 stars have received call-ups to Ange Postecoglou’s Premier League squads throughout the season.

Names such as Jamie Donley and Alfie Dorrington are quickly becoming commonplace among supporters at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but a recent international announcement demonstrates the strength in depth among Spurs’ youngest hopefuls.

With Tyrese Hall, Donley, Dorrington and Will Lankshear having all been called up to represent England at Under-19 level, it was announced by the club on Wednesday via X (20 March) that Abbott would be joining his Spurs colleagues.

England’s Under-19s will take on Morocco’s Under-19s (21 March) and the United States of America’s Under-19s (24 March) in two friendlies over the coming days, both matches which Abbott will look to play some part in.

George Abbott is another young Tottenham talent for Ange Postecoglou to keep an eye on

Abbott hasn’t been a regular all season at Hotspur Way, but he has recently seen more game time under Burnett, and that has clearly been recognised.

Having featured just three times in Spurs’ opening 11 Premier League 2 matches, the 18-year-old has started four of the last five for the North London side.

His versatility has been on display this season, with Abbott featuring as a defensive midfielder, centre-back and left-back for the Under-21s.

Abbott has scored two goals and provided one assist this season and will now look to build on his recent momentum while away with England.

If he can get some minutes for his nation, and make an impression, Burnett could be tempted to continue offering the defensive-minded player more game time, which could lead to Abbott featuring more prominently on Postecoglou’s radar.
