Tottenham Under-18 duo send Ange Postecogolou a timely message after what they did on Saturday

Ange Postecoglou was sent a timely reminder that the future is bright at Tottenham despite his side’s heavy defeat to Newcastle United.

Spurs were beaten 4-0 at St James’ Park on Saturday (13 April), with Postecoglou’s mood likely very low on the team bus back to North London.

However, a quick check of what Spurs’ Under-18s had been up to that same afternoon would have certainly lifted the Australian’s mood.

While Stuart Lewis’ side also tasted defeat, losing 4-3 against Fulham’s Under-18s at Hotspur Way (13 April), it is difficult to blame Lewis or his players for the loss, with Spurs having lost both of their starting centre-backs to injury by half-time.

On what was a challenging afternoon, Tottenham’s young attacking players still managed to shine, and Postecoglou will have been particularly intrigued by the performances of Mikey Moore and Luca Williams-Barnett.

Moore and Williams-Barnett are two young players at Hotspur Way who Spurs supporters should be incredibly excited about.

Williams-Barnett has only just started featuring for the Under-18s, while Moore has been shining at that level all season, and both players dazzled once again on Saturday.

With Fulham a goal to the good, the Spurs duo combined on the left-hand side to set up Ellis Lehane, who saw his shot saved into the path of Damola Ajayi, the midfielder on hand to divert the ball home and level the match.

Both players had an even more influential part to play in Spurs’ second, with Williams-Barnett winning a penalty which Moore converted on the stroke of half-time to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.

And after Fulham had taken a 3-2 lead, Williams-Barnett and Moore linked up again, with the latter’s cross this time turned home by Lehane to level proceedings.

While Fulham would go on to grab a winner against a makeshift Tottenham backline, it takes nothing away from the attacking talent which was on display at Hotspur Way, and on an afternoon where his senior forward players struggled so much, it would have brought a smile to Postecoglou’s face to see his youngsters flourish.
