Tottenham Under-18 ace Tyrese Hall will have caught Ange Postecoglou’s eye after what he did on Friday

Ange Postecoglou loves a goalscoring midfielder, and Tyrese Hall proved he knows where the back of the net is in Tottenham Under-18s’ most recent victory against Aston Villa.

Spurs’ youngsters ended 2023 disappointingly, losing 4-2 at home to their London rivals, West Ham United.

That is why their most recent victory, which sent them back to the top of the Under-18 Premier League South and saw them kick off 2024 with a bang, will feel all the more important.

Midfielder Hall is largely to thank for the three points, as his goalscoring heroics helped Spurs see off Aston Villa Under-18s with a 3-2 win at Hotspur Way on Friday 12 January.

It was Ellis Lehane who handed the home side the lead before Hall scored his first of the afternoon in the 32nd minute of the contest to double Spurs’ advantage.

While Postecoglou likes a midfielder with some attacking flair, he also appreciates a player who can get himself about in the middle of the park, and Hall showcased both of these attributes with his first strike of the afternoon, winning the ball back before slotting home in composed fashion just past the half an hour mark.

Goals from Charlie Pavey and substitute Abube Onuchukwu eight minutes apart got Villa back on level terms with nine minutes of normal time left to play, and it looked as if Tottenham were going to live to regret their missed chances.

However, with moments left to play, Hall started and finished a team move to score a 97th-minute winning goal and send Spurs top of the table.

His goal was assisted by star man Mikey Moore who returned to action from the bench after a lengthy layoff due to injury, in what was another boost for Tottenham on the afternoon.

Hall is still only 18 years old and has some vital years of development ahead of him, but the early signs of his progress suggest a player who could fit in perfectly to a Postecoglou midfield.

The goals on Friday were his third and fourth of the season, and with three assists to add to that goalscoring tally from central-midfield, Hall has certainly demonstrated he is a player who can impact the game in all areas of the pitch.

This is something Postecoglou will appreciate, and the Australian will likely be keeping a close eye on his progress at Hotspur Way over the next few years.
