Tottenham Under-18 ace Leo Black can emulate Pedro Porro after contract announcement
Tottenham might have already found their long-term replacement for right-back Pedro Porro.
Porro has only recently found his feet in North London after joining Spurs from Sporting Lisbon in a £39million deal midway through last season (Sky Sports News, 1 February 2023).
He has become a hit at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium under Ange Postecoglou this season, providing seven assists in the Premier League and excelling in his role as an inverted right-back.
Although Porro is still only 24 himself, Spurs might have already lined up their long-term replacement for the Spaniard.
Under-18 ace Leo Black has signed his first professional contract in North London (Tottenham Hotspur Official Website, 5 March), and his performances this season prove that he could be a suitable deputy for Porro one day.
Could Leo Black become a hit at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium under Ange Postecoglou?
It is hard to deny that Black’s first professional contract with Spurs has been well earned.
The 18-year-old has progressed well through the youth ranks at Hotspur Way, with his positional switch to right-back this season working wonders.
Having previously operated as a midfielder, Black has been playing in an inverted right-back role, similar to the one Porro plays for Postecoglou, for Stuart Lewis’ Under-18s this season.
His experience as a midfielder makes him more suited to the role, and his numbers demonstrate that he is loving life as a full-back.
Across his 16 appearances in the Under-18 Premier League South this season, Black has found the back of the net four times while also providing six assists for his teammates.
He was a part of Spurs’ Under-17 Premier League Cup winning side last season, and recently captained the Under-18s in a 6-3 win away against Southampton Under-18s (2 February), where he scored a stunning long-range strike, much like Porro did against Burnley in the FA Cup this season.

Having already made his debut for the Under-21s, stepping off the bench in a 1-0 Premier League Cup victory against Bristol City Under-21s (30 January), it is clear that the club have high hopes for Black.
His performances this season prove that he could be the perfect player for Postecoglou, and it might not be too long until Porro has some competition for his place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
