Tottenham sensation Williams-Barnett ‘on verge’ of Postecoglou chance

Luca Williams-Barnett must surely be on the verge of a first-team call-up for Tottenham after what he achieved for the academy side against Brighton.

Tottenham have been struggling in various areas of the pitch all season, with a lack of attacking quality on show in various games throughout the season.

Calls were made for Will Lankshear to get an opportunity before his exit was sanctioned in favour of a loan switch to West Brom, while Mikey Moore has even had to wait for his turn, perhaps more patiently than he should have been.

However, a new star has emerged on the block and Ange Postecoglou has to be considering a future inclusion for the youngster based on his recent performances.

Williams-Barnett shines for Spurs Under-18s

Despite being just 16 years old, Barnett-Williams has been in remarkable form for the Under-18s side, having registered eight goal contributions in just five league appearances.

Three of them arrived as a hat-trick in their 5-3 victory over Brighton on Saturday (8 February), with his showing surely doing him no harm in a step up to the next level.

Moore has already shown his quality at such a young age, and if afforded the opportunity, there is no reason why Williams-Barnett could not replicate that success.

With Postecoglou under growing pressure at Tottenham, the inclusion of such a highly rated prospect would do him plenty of favours among the fanbase.

Tottenham can turn to youth

Quite frankly, the senior members of the Spurs squad haven’t set the world alight this season and if anything, it is the younger members of the side that have shone the most.

Players like Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall have received plenty of praise despite still being in their teen years, and there is nothing to suggest that similar success couldn’t be found with Williams-Barnett.

However, they must be given the opportunity to showcase what they can do and without that, they will just remain as a prospect with a bright future.

Spurs are in need of an injection of optimism this season, and there is no better way to achieve that than then to see one of your own have an impact at senior level.

Williams-Barnett’s incredible form suggests he may just be the next cab off the rank.
