Tottenham finally clinch silverware as academy side lift the Under-17’s Premier League Cup

Whilst the first team has been without silverware since their infamous 2008 League Cup victory, fans finally have something to celebrate, with Spurs’ academy side claiming the Under 17’s Premier League Cup with an emphatic 5-1 victory over Nottingham Forest.

Despite the scoreline, it was Forest who drew first blood, as youngster Danny Aniskjo fired the hosts into a lead; however, it didn’t take the Lilywhites long to level the scoring with Oliver Irow netting just three minutes later.

With the game level, two quick fouls from Forest’s Kyle McAdam drew two yellow cards, reducing the hosts to ten men and handing Spurs a man advantage.

Tottenham was then quick to capitalise, with forward Micky Moore capping off a terrific run into the penalty area with a cool finish into the bottom corner sending Spurs into the break a goal and a man to the good.

Forest’s night then went from bad to worse, with captain Connor Brown being shown a straight red for an off-the-ball incident early into the second half, turning what was already an uphill battle into a frankly impossible task.

From there, as expected, Spurs dominated, with Tyrese Hall and Moore adding third and fourth goals in the 74th and 77th minute, before Irow capped off the win with a 90th-minute strike.

Granted, Spurs held a two-man advantage, but their performance in the second half was that of a together, mature outfit who deserved to be crowned champions.

Those in the Spurs hierarchy can take great pleasure in Wednesday’s victory, showing good work from those in the academy setup at Hotspur Way, with several players catching the eye at the City Ground, Forest’s home turf.

Whilst there were numerous impressive performances, the standout player looked to be 15-year-old Moore, who with his two goals has no doubt invoked comparisons to former academy graduate Harry Kane.

Tottenham has always prided themselves on boasting strong academy prospects, with the Premier League Cup victory only adding further fuel to the fire, and hopefully one day some of Tuesday’s heroes can lead the first team to further silverware.
