Loan Watch: Tottenham starlet Troy Parrott breaks goal drought for Preston North End
Tottenham starlet Troy Parrott’s cool finish for loan side Preston North End finally brings his Championship goal drought to an end.
The youngster has been a member of Spurs’ youth academy for several years, even making numerous appearances for the first team during his time at the club.
Parrott has been held in high esteem throughout this time at Hotspur Way, notching an impressive record of 31 goals and six assists in 37 games for Spurs youth sides, including an outstanding record of 17 goals and three assists in just 15 Under-18 games (Transfermarkt).
The Irishman, who boasts 18 caps for his nation, has spent the last three seasons away from North London in search of regular game time, and although his first stint on loan at Millwall was more than forgettable, he enjoyed a strong campaign in 2021/22.
Helping MK Dons reach the playoffs, Parrott put up an impressive league record of eight goals and seven assists in 41 games, racking up just shy of 3,000 minutes of football which will only benefit the youngster in terms of experience.
This season, looking to test himself at a higher level, Parrott opted to join Championship side Preston North End on loan, however, has struggled to replicate the same success he enjoyed with the Dons.
In the same game as he scored his first league goal for Preston, Parrott sustained a knee injury that forced him off at half-time, with the forward then missing the following 13 games.
Since then, whilst Parrott has returned to the side, his minutes have duly varied, and the forward has bagged just two more goals, the latest of which came on Wednesday night (19 April) in a 4-2 defeat to Swansea.
Whilst club life may have been difficult for Parrott this season, the youngster can take head that talisman Harry Kane endured several painful loans before breaking into the first team, and ultimately, perseverance is the name of the game.
Hopefully, Parrott’s goal can kickstart some late-season form, as with three games remaining for Preston this season, they still have an outside chance of a play-off finish, sitting just two points off sixth-placed Blackburn Rovers.
In other Tottenham news, Vincent Kompany could also be an option to take over at Spurs.
