Damola Ajayi ‘frustrated with Postecoglou’ after latest Tottenham developments

Damola Ajayi will likely be feeling confused and frustrated about what has happened recently at Tottenham.

Ange Postecoglou has been forced to call on some of the younger players in North London due to Spurs’ severe injury crisis this season.

However, while that might have negatively impacted results at times, it has also demonstrated to fans that there is plenty to be excited about for the future of the club.

Players such as Lucá Williams-Barnett are absolutely tearing it up in the academy, while 17-year-old Mikey Moore is already an established part of the first-team picture at Spurs.

Another youngster who has impressed this season is Ajayi. The Under-21s forward came off the bench to make his senior debut in Spurs’ 3-0 UEFA Europa League win over Elfsborg at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday 30 January, scoring just minutes after his introduction.

However, Ajayi hasn’t been since, and the 19-year-old, who is likely to be feeling frustrated, has offered Postecoglou a reminder of his quality.

Ajayi shines for Tottenham Under-21s despite defeat v Leicester City Under-21s

Spurs’ Under-21s were beaten 2-0 away at Leicester City’s Under-21s in the Premier League 2 on Monday (3 March), with the North London club making an unfortunate social media blunder involving Dane Scarlett ahead of the clash.

However, despite the defeat, Ajayi still put in a positive display. After a poor first-half showing which saw Spurs concede twice against the Foxes, Wayne Burnett’s side improved their performance levels, with Ajayi providing multiple “menacing” deliveries into the penalty area [Tottenham Hotspur].

Unfortunately for Ajayi and Spurs, none of those deliveries were converted, and the forward also had another chance at an assist go begging when Oliver Irow couldn’t convert after being played through by his Spurs teammate.

However, despite not leaving the pitch with an assist to his name, Ajayi will still feel as though he has underlined his credentials for another first-team opportunity.

Postecoglou should hand Ajayi another chance for Tottenham

While Ajayi won’t be expecting to start every game for the first-team, not getting any opportunities after scoring a goal minutes into your debut is bound to be frustrating and confusing.

Therefore, Postecoglou should consider handing Ajayi a chance in the coming weeks, especially as Spurs start to shift their focus to the UEFA Europa League, and Premier League games become less important.
