Ange Postecoglou must reward Yusuf Akhamrich after what Tottenham U18 ace did

Ange Postecoglou should keep a close eye on Tottenham Under-18 ace Yusuf Akhamrich after what he did recently.

Postecoglou is currently spoiled for choice when it comes to young talent at Hotspur Way.

Several players have burst onto the scene this season, with the likes of Mikey Moore, Alfie Dorrington and Jamie Donley slowly becoming household names at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs’ Under-21s have had a season to remember, recently confirming their place atop Premier League 2 with a game to spare ahead of the competition entering its play-off phase.

With little to play for, Wayne Burnett named a heavily rotated side as the Under-21s took on Crystal Palace’s Under-21s on Monday (29 April).

The Eagles ran out 5-0 winners against a relatively unexperienced Tottenham team, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t any positives for Postecoglou to take away from the result, with Akhamrich’s contributions a particular highlight.

With their Premier League Cup semi-final to come against Nottingham Forest’s Under-21s on Thursday (2 May), Burnett made the wise decision to rest some key players in what was a dead-rubber match.

That offered an opportunity for some younger players to get some minutes for the Under-21s, and Akhamrich certainly took that opportunity.

It was the Under-18 star who registered the first shot on target for Tottenham on Monday, combining nicely with Jude Soonsup-Bell before testing Joe Whitworth with a fierce strike.

But what would have impressed Postecoglou most was the fact that this was Akhamrich’s third match for the Spurs academy in four days, a level of desire that any manager would like to see from a younger player.

If Spurs find themselves with little to play for in one of the final games of their Premier League campaign, then Postecoglou should look to reward Akhamrich’s commitment by offering him a place in the matchday squad.
