Ange Postecoglou must keep an eye on Damola Ajayi at Tottenham after what he did on Saturday
Damola Ajayi has demonstrated to Ange Postecoglou that he has the potential to become a key player at Tottenham.
Ajayi bagged a first-half hattrick as Spurs’ Under-18s recorded a 5-3 victory over West Brom’s Under-18s at Hotspur Way on Saturday (27 April).
The three points leaves Tottenham fifth in the Under-18 Premier League South.
It has been a mostly positive season for Stuart Lewis’ side despite some recent struggles, with this win just their second in their last five matches.
Several players within the Under-18 setup have experienced breakthrough seasons this year, with Ajayi one of those examples.
After firing Tottenham ahead on Saturday afternoon, the 18-year-old completed his treble after Archie Baptiste had headed home Spurs’ second, which left the hosts with a commanding 4-1 lead at half-time.
Han Willhoft-King would eventually score Spurs’ fifth on an afternoon which certainly did Ajayi’s prospects in North London no harm.
Ange Postecoglou must keep an eye on Damola Ajayi at Tottenham
Ajayi is certainly a player for Postecoglou to keep a close eye on.
He will be 19 midway through next season, which is around the age at which some talented academy players begin to make a consistent impact at first-team level.
And Ajayi has definitely proven so far that he has the credentials to do just that.
The winger has already featured for the Under-21s this season, demonstrating that he is comfortable making the step up, and there is no reason why Postecoglou shouldn’t take a closer look at him next season.
This recent hat trick suggests he is too good to be playing with the Under-18s, and he is therefore likely to become a more regular part of the Under-21 setup next season.
Should that happen, there will be plenty more opportunities for Ajayi to make an impression on Postecoglou.
