Ange Postecoglou could call on Tottenham gem Tynan Thompson to save his job

Ange Postecoglou could look toward some of the younger players at Tottenham in an attempt to turn things around in North London.

Postecoglou is under serious pressure with his side sitting 15th in the Premier League after 12 defeats already this season, and ex-Spurs scout Bryan King has revealed that Daniel Levy could decide to fire the Australian within weeks.

Therefore, the Spurs boss needs to turn things around and turn things around quickly, especially with the likes of Massimiliano Allegri waiting in the wings.

However, it doesn’t look as though the club are any closer to bringing in any external reinforcements to help the 59-year-old, with goalkeeper Antonín Kinský Spurs’ only signing in the winter transfer window thus far.

As a result, with the first-team players exhausted – those who are fit anyway – and no new signings inbound, Postecoglou could be forced to turn toward some of the academy players at Hotspur Way.

And one youngster who has demonstrated he could be ready to step up is forward Tynan Thompson.

Ange Postecoglou to turn to Tottenham gem Tynan Thompson?

Tottenham return to UEFA Europa League action with a trip to the PreZero Arena to take on Hoffenheim on Thursday (23 January), before hosting Leicester City in the Premier League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (26 January).

Therefore, with the two games so close together, Postecoglou will need to rotate. However, he currently has several key players out – with Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner joining an already extensive injury list over the past week.

As a result, it looks as though some spots in the squad have opened up, and Thompson is a player who Postecoglou should consider handing an opportunity.

The 16-year-old scored his second goal in as many FA Youth Cup games on Monday (20 January) as Stuart Lewis’ side beat Grimsby Town’s Under-18s 5-3 to advance to the next round of the competition.

And if Postecoglou was watching, he is bound to have been impressed.

As a result, with more spots opening up in the first-team squad, and Postecoglou proving this season that he isn’t afraid to hand young players a chance, Thompson could very well find himself on the bench in Germany.

And if he does, the forward might just get the opportunity to come on and make an impact, and potentially save Postecoglou in the process.
