Ange Postecoglou can no longer ignore Maeson King at Tottenham after what happened last week

Destiny Udogie has left Ange Postecoglou with a crisis at left-back and Tottenham Under-21 prospect Maeson King could have already provided him with the answer.

The 21-year-old Italian is set to be sidelined until the start of next season with a muscle injury, which has left the Spurs manager with Ben Davies as his only real senior option on the left side of defence.

Following the 3-2 defeat to Arsenal in the North London derby on Sunday (28 April), it is clear that the Welshman is not a long-term fix for Udogie’s absence, which could force Postecoglou to take drastic measures.

Davies struggled to defend against Bukayo Saka for the majority of his 88 minutes on the pitch and, despite winning the penalty for Son Heung-min to dispatch to bring the score within one, he must be replaced as soon as possible.

This is where 18-year-old King comes into the equation, having made his U21s debut on Friday 26 April as the young Lilywhites claimed a 2-0 win over Fulham at Motspur Park. [Tottenham Hotspur]

King has been hugely impressive in the U18 Premier League so far this campaign, earning his promotion to the next youth level and keeping a clean sheet on his debut.

Maeson King could be the answer for Tottenham

Having signed his first professional contract in February 2024, King has quickly risen through the ranks and may not be too far away from bursting into the first team.

As full-back chaos ensues for Postecoglou, the academy continues to produce incredible talents that could certainly do a job on the left side of his defence.

Rio Kyerematen is another full-back who could have caught the manager’s attention this season, though King making his U21 debut is likely to make him more memorable right now as Postecoglou searches for a solid solution to his problem.

The full-back, who is also capable of deputising at centre-back, has captained his Under-18 side on a couple of occasions, which would suggest he possesses some key leadership attributes that would attract any manager.

Whether King makes his first-team debut this campaign or not, he is certainly a name that Spurs fans need to watch out for in the next couple of seasons.
