Tottenham want to seal £70m double deal, Levy ready to show spending power

Daniel Levy is wasting no time in getting to work preparing for life without Ange Postecoglou.

Although the Lilywhites lifted the Europa League trophy, a 17th-place finish in the Premier League was not enough to save the Australian from the sack.

Now, Thomas Frank looks to be the favourite to replace him and Levy is ready to get straight to work in the transfer market upon his arrival.

Tottenham plan to turn to Brentford again

Levy isn’t well known for his willingness to splash the cash, but after the car crash of last season, he will know that he does have to make some effort.

With Premier League and Champions League football to juggle, Spurs need a strong enough squad to cope with the constant demand of fixtures coming their way.

Therefore, while looking at Brentford in the hope of poaching their manager, Spurs have identified someone else they would like to take.

According to the Sun (8 June), Tottenham are hoping to convince Bryan Mbeumo to make the move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium alongside Frank.

The report states that Levy is trying to hijack Manchester United’s move for the attacker, with the hope that working with Frank and playing Champions League football could be enough to convince him to move.

In total, a deal for both parties would cost the north London outfit £70million.

To get the manager in place, Brentford would expect a £10million compensation package.

However, Manchester United are close to a £60million deal for Mbeumo, meaning Spurs have to be prepared to reach that level.

Although Tottenham have the cash to match the offer, it will be a big show of spending power from Levy to complete the transfer and pay big wages on top of that.

Levy learning from past mistakes

It will take a lot for Levy to win the supporters back after years of giving too little and letting the club down.

However, if the chief was to make a big move for Mbeumo in this instance, it would surely be a sign that things could be changing.

Mbeumo has had a strong season at Brentford under Frank.

The chairman invested too little yet again, even in the winter window when it was clear that Postecoglou needed reinforcements.

However, given how close Tottenham came to complete failure and the implications that would have had on and off the pitch, it seems as though he is prepared to make some changes now.

It’s a new era at Tottenham and if Levy is prepared to go all out for Mbeumo, he would surely take that deal over one at Old Trafford.
