Tottenham ‘update shared’ in race to sign Milan Skriniar from PSG
Tottenham are losing out to Galatasaray in the race to sign PSG defender Milan Skriniar, according to Graeme Bailey.
The transfer correspondent shared to TBR Football (20 January) that PSG will struggle to sanction a loan move, although the Super Lig giants are the frontrunners for the defender’s services if he does depart.
Ange Postecoglou’s side lost out on a loan deal for Randal Kolo Muani to Juventus [Fabrizio Romano], but the agreement has been put on hold as PSG have no more available loan spots – once that deal is rectified, PSG will struggle to secure another loan exit.
The Lilywhites are eager to obtain a left-sided centre-back before the window closes on 3 February, and Skriniar is high on the list of potential targets.
Tottenham cannot afford to lose out on Milan Skriniar
There is a slim hope for Tottenham that Skriniar could make the move to North London.
As per Ben Jacobs (18 January) PSG will sanction a permanent sale for the defender should a suitable offer arrive.
Given the circumstances in Paris, this will likely be the outcome for Skriniar’s future, and it is hard to envision Galatasaray being in a position to financially outmuscle Spurs.
During his spell at Inter Milan, he was highly regarded as one of the best defenders in the world with chairman Steven Zhang dubbing him “an incredible player” (Sempre Inter, 26 October 2022), and he was eager for him to continue at the San Siro before he moved to PSG at the end of his deal.

While he is 29, Skriniar would arrive as the most decorated centre-back in North London and, upon their return from injury, provide fierce competition to Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.
Daniel Levy has been scouring the transfer market for loan moves to improve the side but after the 3-2 loss against Everton (19 January) left Spurs in 15th place, only eight points clear of the relegation zone, the chequebook will have to come out.
Tottenham would do well to find a better defender than Skriniar available in the market and, after the failure to sign Kolo Muani, they cannot afford to allow another target to slip through their fingers.
