Tottenham stop the rot with welcome Maeson King transfer update
Tottenham finally appear to have turned the tide with some welcome news on Maeson King.
Spurs have seen a number of players turn down new contract in recent weeks, including Elijah Upson.
The defender was offered a professional deal by Spurs but decided he would be better off trying his luck elsewhere.
Matthew Craig is another who is moving on this month, as are Leo Black and Tyrell Ashcroft, so there is clearly a wider issue.
It is pretty telling that Tottenham's youngsters are electing to move on, perhaps feeling there is no path to the first team.
But King clearly feels differently amid an update shared by Tottenham on Tuesday evening.
Maeson King shares message after agreeing Tottenham contract
King has stopped the rot, so to speak, by agreeing a new deal with Tottenham.
The contract was announced by Spurs via their official social channels, with King airing his delight.
"It's an amazing feeling," he said. "Obviously you always want to be here and keep pushing.
"When you look around, it's one of the best places to be, so it's a really good feeling."
King, who is capable of playing left-back or centre-back, has had success in the Under-17s, Under-18s and more recently Under-21s sides.
King arrived at Tottenham as a nine-year-old and has steadily progressed through the youth ranks.
Why new contract for King is particularly deserved
Now aged 20, King is approaching the point where he must be considered for first-team selection.
He has already featured in senior squads in the past and was involved in first-team training this past season.
King recently recovered from an injury layoff, which is never easy for a youngster looking to make a name for themselves.
After getting over that issue to play in the final eight games of the season, and showing what he can do on the field, this new deal is fully deserved.
The hope now is that others follow and, fingers crossed, one or two of them form part of Roberto De Zerbi's squad before too long.
