Tottenham: Roberto De Zerbi set for selection dilemma as Senesi and Van Hecke wanted
Tottenham Hotspur are wasting no time in the transfer market to fix their woes from their back-to-back 17th-place finishes.
Roberto De Zerbi will be looking to bring Spurs back up the table, and push closer to those European places.
The Italian is not a miracle worker, so he will need those reinforcements in order to achieve that goal.
With defence a priority, Spurs are chasing both Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke to strengthen at centre-back.
The arrival of both defenders would provide the Tottenham manager with an increase in quality and a headache any Premier League manager would wish to have.
What would Tottenham's best centre-back pairing be for next season?
If the signings of van Hecke and Senesi are to be confirmed, De Zerbi would have to put a lot of thought into which two central defenders he starts most games with.
With Tottenham out of Europe, there will be fewer games to be played, and less need for rotation throughout the season.
As rumours swirl around the current Tottenham defenders, it seems that Cristian Romero and Radu Dragusin could be heading out the door as those two aforementioned targets come in.
It leaves an interesting conversation over who is the best pairing for De Zerbi to use.
For one, starting Senesi and Micky van de Ven together is a no-go straightaway. Both are left-footed centre-backs, and something is unnerving about deploying one on the right.
So ultimately, it will come down to just one of Senesi and van de Ven starting and with Senesi's ability to break the lines with his passing, he may be preferred.
Meanwhile, on the right, van Hecke and Kevin Danso will likely compete for that spot, with both offering different traits.
The Dutchman is a better passer and is better on the ball, while the Austrian is a more physical central defender.
The likelihood is that Van Hecke will suit De Zerbi's style more.
What will happen with Micky van de Ven at Tottenham?
If it is the case that Senesi and Van Hecke start, that means it would be van de Ven who misses out on featuring for Tottenham often next season.
Although, as he does for the Netherlands, De Zerbi could look to use the Dutch international at left-back instead.
It is not his best position, and ideally, he would be better in the middle of defence, but his leadership over the last year cannot go amiss.
But even then, the rumoured incoming Andrew Robertson could also fill that void.
Either way, most managers will certainly envy the situation De Zerbi is about to find himself in.
