Tottenham ready to sell Alejo Véliz after Espanyol transfer decision
Tottenham are ready to sell Alejo Véliz after a season-long loan with Spanish side Espanyol.
Véliz has spent the last year and a half in Spain, joining Sevilla on loan midway through the 2023/24 season, before signing for Espanyol last summer.
The striker is not the only Tottenham player to have enjoyed the Spanish sun this season after the Lilywhites ended a 17-year trophy drought with a 1-0 UEFA Europa League victory against Manchester United in Bilbao (21 May)
Now with a summer of change underway at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the club are ready to sell Véliz, as Espanyol reach a transfer decision.

Espanyol will not sign Véliz on a permanent deal
Véliz made 29 appearances for Espanyol, the Tottenham striker’s final outing coming off the bench to help his temporary side avoid relegation with a 2-0 win against Las Palmas at the RCDE Stadium (24 May).
However, the youngster struggled to make an impact, scoring just four goals.
2024/25 | Appearances | Goals | Assists | Minutes |
Alejo Véliz | 29 | 4 | – | 1.303′ |
Therefore, as reported in the Argentinian media [via Football London, 26 May], Espanyol will not be signing Véliz permanently.
Meanwhile, Tottenham are willing to listen to transfer offers for the 21-year-old this summer.
Véliz to be sold despite youth shining at Tottenham
While Tottenham’s season was unpredictable, it will always be remembered as one which gave the young players the chance to shine on some of the biggest stages.
Damola Ajayi and Callum Olusesi both received winners’ medals as Tottenham won the Europa League, with the former on the bench at the Estadio de San Mamés.
Meanwhile, Archie Gray played an important role in the Lilywhites’ Europa League campaign.
Additionally, the injury crisis at Spurs has given more young players the chance to shine, including Lucas Bergvall, who has established himself as a first-team regular.
However, it doesn’t look as though Véliz will have a chance to play a similar role next season.
