Tottenham ‘ready bid for Mathys Tel’ after Bayern Munich transfer update

Tottenham Hotspur have registered their interest in Mathys Tel after he decided to leave Bayern Munich this month, according to The Telegraph.

Matt Law reported on 29 January that Spurs are set to go toe-to-toe with Chelsea and several other interested clubs in their efforts to sign the 19-year-old forward, who is on the outer in Munich.

While Chelsea are yet to formalise their interest in the France Under-21s international, Spurs are ready to make a move themselves as Ange Postecoglou looks to finally strengthen his frontline.

Mathys Tel transfer can provide much-needed boost at Tottenham

Although he’s far from the finished article at just 19, Tel has rarely looked out of place in a star-studded Bayern side, scoring 16 goals in 82 matches – often off the bench – for the Bundesliga giants.

With Dominic Solanke, Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner all out injured, and joined on the sidelines by James Maddison in recent days, it’s clear that Spurs need reinforcements up front.

Much has been made of the Lilywhites’ injury crisis exacerbating their fortunes at the other end of the pitch, with Pedro Porro currently the only first-choice member of the backline who is fit and firing.

Postecoglou has understandably been desperate for signings at the rear of his team given the rate at which Spurs are leaking goals, but plucking Tel from Bayern could see them add a few more in attack.

It’s hardly as if Harry Kane is returning to North London from Bayern, but Spurs will hope their former talisman can play a part in swaying Tel their way before the winter window slams shut.

In other Tottenham news, a Premier League rival are “desperate” to stop Spurs from signing a highly-rated young attacker.
