Tottenham make Rayan Cherki approach as ‘likely destination’ now revealed

Tottenham have continued to show an interest in Lyon star Rayan Cherki ahead of the summer.

There will be a large focus on the Europa League final in North London as the potential of a trophy and a Champions League place hangs in the balance.

With that being said, plans for the upcoming transfer window will also be in the process of being drawn up after a terrible Premier League season for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

This has already seen an initial approach be made for Cherki, who looks destined for an exit from Lyon at the end of the campaign.

Tottenham in race to sign Cherki from Lyon

It does feel as if the Lilywhites are in desperate need of creativity from midfield moving into the new campaign in North London.

With James Maddison picking up an injury after being strongly linked with a move away, a new option could be needed by Spurs.

This could see the Cherki come into view as a potential option ready for the summer after yet another positive season in Ligue 1.

The France under-21 international looks likely to move on from Lyon after coming through their academy before becoming a regular in the first team.

This has seen Tottenham emerge as a potential destination for the 21-year-old, as Le Parisien reported on 12 May that Spurs have enquired about the attacking midfielder already.

Postecoglou’s side have been joined by Liverpool and Tottenham in the race for the Frenchman, while PSG have opted to steer clear ahead of the summer.

With that being said, a move to Germany remains a “likely destination” for Cherki, which may prove to dampen a move to N17.

Cherki could transform Tottenham next season

It is fair to say that the Lilywhites have been burned by signing terrific midfielders from Lyon after bringing in Tanguy Ndombele in 2019.

Although that may be the case, it does feel as if Cherki could prove to be a better option given his flair and trickery on the ball.

As such a versatile player to be able to feature on the flank, as an attacking midfielder or even as a striker if needed.

To have the Frenchman combine with fellow countrymen Wilson Odobert and Mathys Tel next season could prove to be devastating if they can find a tune.
