Tottenham: Dane Scarlett surely done as James Wilson return talk says it all
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in bringing James Wilson back to N17, which could spell disaster for Dane Scarlett.
The 19-year-old Wilson joined Tottenham on loan from Scottish side Hearts for the second half of last season.
Edinburgh-born, Wilson's two twin brothers Alfie and Stanley also play in Hearts' academy, with James even being capped by Scotland at senior international level twice already.
Now back with his parent club, the former Lilywhites loanee looks to be facing an uncertain future at Tynecastle, with interest reportedly growing in his signature.
And, as Roberto De Zerbi continues to formulate his plan for how Spurs' squad will look next season, there is seemingly potential for Wilson to make his way back to North London.
What is the latest on James Wilson's possible Tottenham return?
Wilson turned out 11 times in Premier League 2 for Tottenham's Under-21s last season, scoring four times.
Clearly a young striker with plenty of talent and potential, he appears to have plenty of admirers at Spurs, and indeed, across European football.
That's because a report from The Scottish Sun has claimed that Tottenham are in the race to secure his signature once again this summer.
However, Serie A outfit Bologna are also credited with holding an interest in the teenager too, with other clubs also monitoring his situation.
It's claimed that Hearts will be holding out for a seven-figure fee to part ways with Wilson, which could still be a bargain if he reaches his obvious potential in the future.
Wilson situation not only one set to conspire against Scarlett
With just 12 months remaining on his Tottenham contract, 2026-27 really is a make or break year for Scarlett as a Lilywhite.
Now 22, the England youth international has fleeted in and out of Spurs' first-team picture over the years, with his chances not particularly being helped with numerous underwhelming loan spells.
So, should Wilson make his way back to Spurs this summer, that will be a clear sign of faith by De Zerbi, and looks likely to be an investment that demands a first-team pathway being laid out for him.
Scarlett isn't just being pushed to the Tottenham brink by Wilson's possible signing though, as Will Lankshear's presence casts a significant shadow over his first-team chances as well.
The Lilywhites have reportedly turned down multiple big offers for the 21-year-old, who starred on loan for Oxford United last term despite being relegated to League One.
Given what he's been able to accomplish away from N17, Lankshear surely holds a greater claim to a first-team opportunity than Scarlett does.
All of these things considered then, and Scarlett probably needs a Lankshear sale and for Wilson to not be signed this summer if he's to hold any realistic chance of carving out a role in the senior side.
