The FIFA rule that's forcing Tottenham to rethink Richarlison exit talks

Richarlison is yet to seal a move away from Tottenham Hotspur.

It has felt for several weeks as if the Brazilian's future lies away from North London.

That is largely due to his apparent relationship with Roberto De Zerbi and social media comments.

The 29-year-old has suggested that he is done letting others decide where his future lies.

He now has increasingly limited time to seal a last-gasp exit from N17, even after the transfer deadline passed in England.

It had looked as if Richarlison could depart Tottenham on loan, but those plans have now been put on ice.

How FIFA is stopping Richarlison exit at Tottenham

There is no doubt that the number nine's exit would likely benefit all parties.

The forward doesn't want to feature for the Lilywhites and it doesn't feel as if he's wanted by De Zerbi and Co.

That has seen a move to Vasco da Gama emerge as a possibility, but a loan switch is off the cards.

FIFA are the reason for that as the loan rules they passed in 2022 will put a halt on a temporary exit.

It states that clubs can only have six players out on international loans.

With Kevin Danso, Kota Takai, Min-Hyeok Yang, Pape Sarr, Mikey Moore and Souza already out, it leaves Richarlison in a sticky situation.

Could Vasco da Gama sign Richarlison permanently?

There was a push at the Serie A side to get the Spurs forward in on loan before their deadline passes.

The Brazilian transfer window will remain open until 11 September, giving Vasco time to get a deal done.

It may prove to be an issue that their only avenue is a permanent venture.

That could see them wait until the new year as Richarlison would then be available as part of a pre-contract agreement.

His contract will expire next summer, so Vasco da Gama could sort themselves a deal before then.
