Souza made just four Premier League appearances for Tottenham Hotspur last term, and he may be fortunate to hit that tally in the next campaign.

There was plenty of optimism in North London when Souza made the move, given the reputation he had built for himself in Brazil.

He arrived as a young, attacking wing-back, which was, at the time, ideal for the way Spurs were looking to play.

However, it became apparent very quickly that he would have to earn his way into the starting 11, with just over 100 minutes played since his move.

And with Andy Robertson now confirmed to be a Tottenham player, even more questions will be asked.

What does the future hold for Souza?

The teen was competing with an injury-prone Destiny Udogie for minutes last season, and even then, he couldn't force his way into the team.

With Robertson now added to the mix, and Djed Spence also to consider, it's hard to see an immediate future for the Brazilian in North London.

At this stage in his career, Souza needs to be playing regular senior football, and ideally in England as he looks to get used to the competitive nature that the Premier League has to offer.

It's clear that he is not going to get that at Spurs, which potentially opens the door for a summer loan exit, or even a permanent departure.

Tottenham will maintain hope that they can get good value for money out of the deal, which may sway them more towards a loan exit as he looks to get up to speed.

Souza's Tottenham contract as we know it

It has been less than five months since Souza joined Tottenham, which speaks volumes given his lack of gametime in that period.

However, it was confirmed at the time that the teen had signed a long-term deal, which is likely to mean that he will have atleast four years left in North London.

That will ease concerns at Tottenham, given that they have time to see him develop and assess his future from there.
