Mikey Moore's expected loan move from Tottenham to Cologne may not be quite as imminent as first thought.

Roberto De Zerbi was able to take a close look at Moore during Tottenham's pre-season tour of New Zealand and Australia.

The talented teenager was involved with the first team, and started in the opening game of the tour against Auckland FC.

Moore impressed during a loan spell at Rangers last season, and was named the Scottish Premiership Young Player of the Year.

The Gers have remained keen to take him back to Ibrox for the 2026/27 campaign, though Spurs are seemingly going to send him elsewhere.

However, the 18-year-old's expected departure may be delayed, at least for the time being.

What's the latest with Mikey Moore and Tottenham?

There is high hope that Moore can make the breakthrough at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the coming years.

But, for now, it looks as though De Zerbi will be targeting new reinforcements for the first team.

So, it makes sense that Spurs would sanction another loan exit, and Fabrizio Romano reported on 2 August that his loan deal to Cologne could be completed "next week".

Negotiations with the Bundesliga club were described as "advanced" and Moore was said to be open to the move.

However, Tottenham expert and friend of Tottenham News John Wenham, has taken to TikTok to explain that there may be a delay.

Speaking on his Lilywhite Rose TikTok channel, Wenham suggested there could be a "surprise" involving Moore for Saturday's pre-season friendly against Getafe.

Wenham suggested Moore is likely to be involved against the Spanish side, which means his loan exit could be delayed a little longer.

Mikey Moore delay makes sense for Tottenham

It does still feel as though Moore will make a temporary exit this summer, and he will want regular game time to continue his development.

But Spurs are still seeking reinforcements to their forward line, and until that is achieved it makes sense to keep Moore in the building a little longer.

Moreover, with James Morrison still struggling with injury, it makes sense that Moore is involved against Getafe.

It is not about halting Moore's development or standing in his way, merely that Tottenha have a short-term need.
