Phoenix Offiah could save Tottenham millions in the future after what he did

Tottenham Hotspur showcased several of their academy players during the pre-season tour of New Zealand and Australia.

The likes of Malachi Hardy, Luca Barnett-Williams, Tye Hall, Rio Kyerematen, and Jamie Donley were just some of the youngsters to get some valuable game time.

Pre-season tours can be a really good education for the youngsters to work alongside the first team and develop their skills.

More importantly, it can provide a chance for Roberto De Zerbi to take a look at some of his fledgling youngsters and decide who he might want to utilise in his squad.

But, there was one youngster in the form of Phoenix Offiah not on the tour Down Under who also caught the eye over the weekend.

Indeed, De Zerbi might have been on the other side of the globe, but he'll have been thrilled to hear about what happened.

What did Phoenix Offiah do for Tottenham Under-18s?

Tottenham's Under-18s are busy gearing up for their own new campaign under Jamie Carr right now.

That included a training ground pre-season friendly against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

Spurs' gems ran out 4-1 winners, and 16-year-old Offiah - son of former rugby league star Martin - impressively scored all four goals for Spurs' youngsters.

Indeed, Offiah had scored a perfect hat-trick of a right foot, left foot, and header inside 31 minute at Hotspur Way.

Offiah made it a four-goal haul in the second half, before Wolves managed to score a late reply.

Speaking about the performance, Carr said to Tottenham's official website: "Phoenix attacked a few crosses and scored four goals – he did well in those moments and showed a bit of ruthlessness.”

Earlier in pre-season, Offiah scored twice in a 5-0 rout of Watford and he will hope to take that form into Spurs' U18s campaign this season.

How long is Phoenix Offiah's Tottenham contract?

Offiah was one of 13 players who stepped into Spurs' U18s side as first-year scholars back in July.

The 16-year-old, who joined Spurs last year, signed a two-year scholarship keeping him at the club until 2028.

Strikers are really difficult to come by, so De Zerbi will be hoping he can continue his excellent development at Hotspur Way.

If he can, he could one day save the club millions by avoiding having to pay out huge transfer fees to sign forwards elsewhere.

It is obviously still very early in his development, but the signs are extremely promising.
