Newcastle United desperate ‘as player green lights Tottenham transfer’

Tottenham Hotspur target Tyler Dibling is the subject of a “desperate” transfer bid from Newcastle United, according to GiveMeSport.

The online outlet reported on 29 January that Newcastle are doing everything in their power to prevent Dibling making a mid-season move from Southampton to North London, amid interest from Spurs.

Dibling has already given the green light to a move to the Lilywhites, with a transfer on the cards before 3 February [TEAMtalk, 21 January], but Newcastle are desperate to prevent this and boost their hopes of a summer move.

With Southampton demanding £55million for the 18-year-old winger despite looking destined for relegation, Newcastle are hopeful they can beat Spurs to his signature once the summer window opens.

It’s often the case that a relegation-threatened team has a few shining lights who look a level above their team-mates, but its rare that these standout players come in the form of 18-year-old widemen.

Dibling has arguably been the one and only silver lining to come out of Southampton’s dreadful return to the Premier League, in which they’ve collected just six points and are rooted to the bottom of the table.

Having also attracted interest from the likes of RB Leipzig [Florian Plettenberg, 21 January], it’s no surprise to see that the teenager will be in high demand if and when Southampton’s return to the second-tier is sealed.

Spurs being established as Dibling’s first choice in the event of a transfer is a huge boost as they look to get a deal over the line, but waiting until the summer could certainly prove to be the shrewdest move.

That £55m price-tag will surely come down a few notches with Southampton a Championship side once again, and while that’ll bring plenty of teams into the mix, Spurs will still be confident of signing Dibling.
